A bstract A process is described for controlling the reheat volume of fire‐clay and high‐alumina refractory products. The volume change of a fire‐clay or high‐alumina refractory body fired at a normal firing temperature can be regulated for use in service at a higher temperature by the addition of a definite quantity of a water‐soluble compound of sulfur. Compounds of sulfur that are insoluble in water are not effective for this process. The process is relatively inexpensive and can be applied to any standard refractory manufacturing procedure.
