A bstract The development of cast alumina refractories is briefly described, and the physical and chemical properties of three types of high‐alumina, fusion‐cast refractories that have proved commercially successful are given. Such properties as microstructure and glass‐refractory interface reactions are discussed, and the use of these refractories with several different types of glass is described.
