A bstract Several different colored stains were prepared and added separately to a transparent enamel. The effect of fineness of the enamel, thickness of application, and various heat treatments on the colors obtained with application on both white and black undercoats were studied by analyzing the resulting colors with a K. & E. spectrophotometer. The percentage of reflectance for each wave‐length in the visible spectrum was plotted. Microscopic and X‐ray examinations were also made in order to study the factors producing the color changes noted.
