Some of the problems encountered in firing decorated whiteware are discussed. Both commercial and laboratory tests were conducted to show the cause of difficulties and their prevention. The subjects discussed are (1) “spit‐out” or blistered glaze, (3) prevention of crazed or dunted glaze, (3) firing of selenium red overglaze, and (4) prevention of specks in decorating or overglazing one‐fired whiteware.
