The effect of ZnO on sheet‐iron cover‐enamel properties was studied by evaluation of the properties of a typical sheet‐iron cover enamel in which ZnO was used as single‐ and double‐partial replacements for the various ingredients. The fluxing action of ZnO was found to be pronounced and it was markedly effective in decreasing frit solubility in the mill liquor. Improvement in gloss resulted from its use without any adverse effect on enamel extensibility and resistance to thermal shock.
