With the furnace operating twelve hours per day, powcr consumption varied from 7 pounds of iron per kw.‐hr. for light loads to 13 pounds per kw.‐hr. for heavy loads. Operating in the daytime, this 215‐kw. furnace increased the average plant demand 150 kw.
