A test on silica brick during their use in open‐hearth furnaces is described. Four zones of varying characteristics in a silica brick are noted. A table presents the changes composition and refractoriness which take place in brick used in basic and acid open‐hearth furnaces. With highly converted brick, durability may be promoted indirectly greater structural stability of the roof.
