Summary. Feeding experiments have shown that burrs, Psammechinus miliaris , are capable of penetrating and eating adult oysters, but they were found to do so only rarely. The erosion of oysters seemed to result from the activity of Psammechinus in search of Polydora and Cliona. Barnacles, cockles and ascidians were eaten frequently. The maximum feeding rate occurred during the summer.
