Summary. Larvae of nine of the eleven members of the Paguroidea (including Coenobitoidea) recorded from British waters have been hatched from the egg in the laboratory. Zoeal stages and the glaucothoe of each of these nine species are described. A single zoea of a 10th species was obtained from the plankton It is provisionally identified and described. Larval characters provide strong evidence of convergent evolution in the adults, both in those species at present grouped in the Paguridae and in those at present grouped in the genus Pagurus. A revised classification is proposed.
