Summary A description is given of the larval stages of Balanus crenatus and the number of naupliar stages found compared with those described for this species by Herz (1933). Six naupliar stages were found in the present investigation, whereas Herz has described eight naupliar stages. It is suggested that the second and fifth stages described by Herz are missing from the present sequence. The number of naupliar stages found in the present survey agrees with that of other species of barnacle which have feeding nauplii. Though the sequence described by Herz may not be typical, variations in the larval sequence of one species at different points in its area of distribution cannot be dismissed as completely impossible.
