The probability of feeding was significantly lower ( P <0.001) for male than for female sea trout in six rivers, and decreased significantly ( P <0.05) for both sexes with increasing distance upstream from the normal tidal limit. The diet changed markedly from marine to freshwater and terrestrial foods with increasing distance upstream, especially among females.
