A commercially exploited cyprinid, Vimba vimba (L.), was caught just below the Wlocláwek dam during its upstream spawning migration in the Vistula R., Poland, in October and released l.5–2km above the dam, which was negotiated by very few fish. Recruitment indices originating from these transfers, which were carried out over 7 years, correlated well with respective contributions to the commercial catch over 10 years.
