The specific turning radius of yellowfin tuna Thunnus albacares Cuvier is large relative to that of other fish (0.47 total body length ± 0.18, mean ± 2 s.e .). We argue that specializations for efficient steady swimming compromise performance in transient turning manoeuvres.
