Adult garfish were captured by rod and line from Courtmacsherry Bay, Co. Cork, southern Ireland. Examination of gut contents showed that they feed on crustaceans, especially crab larvae, and juvenile fish, mostly clupeids. They also take stranded insects from the sea surface. Post‐larval garfish were found to be feeding on the smaller elements of the neuston, such as copepods and larval bryozoans.
