A quantitative methaemoglobin reductase assay was developed applicable for fish blood. In the trial method, plasma and DNA of red cells proved to be sources of error. Satisfactory linearity was obtained after modifying the method. The reaction could not be started by NADPH and was inhibited by citrate. Reduction activity was studied in rainbow trout. DNA and Hb were compared as reference values.
