Groups of both carp, Cyprinus carpio , and mullet, Crenimugil labrosus , learned to associate a 250 Hz sine wave generated acoustic singnal with a previously conditioned trigger pressing operant response for food. Within 48 h, a programmed signal of 5 min duration in every 1 h period was stimulating trigger responses for food reward, whilst during other periods not associated with sound there were few responses.
