The fecundities of Mugil liza, M. hospes, M. curema and M. trichodon from Cuban waters were determined volumetrically. The subsamples obtained with a Bogorov pipette from a saturated salt solution had a coefficient of variation (C.V.) of 6.81% and did not introduce a bias. Since the fecundity‐weight relationships were significantly different between species and between M. curema from different localities, this character might be used to discriminate between species and stocks of mugilids. There was the same ranked order for fecundity and growth rate of the different species; M. liza had the highest values followed by M. curema, M. hospes and M. trichodon. .
