A description is given of Pseudochromis porphyreus , a new species of serranoid reef fish from the Pacific which is overall bright magenta in coloration; it was recorded from the Ryukyu Is., Philippine Is., Palau Is., Gilbert Is., New Hebrides, Fiji and American Samoa.
