Allografts within the ovary are rejected as rapidly as those made elsewhere; the Xiphophorus ovary is thus not a favoured site for allograft survival because of high gonadal hormone levels. Removal of one embryo of a brood from the ovary and its reimplantation elsewhere does not affect the development of the remaining members of the brood. Immune rejection of the foetus during gestation is not avoided by the absence of lymphatic drainage from the ovary.
