Poll interest in the vice president has expanded in recent years as the office has become more important in policy making and as a stepping stone to the presidency. This article track these trends in poll interest in the vice presidency and then compares the approval ratings of Bill Clinton and Al Gore during Gore's tenure as Clinton's vice president. Clinton's approval casts a long shadow on approval of his vice president, but data also indicate some differences in the sources of approval of these two national figures.
