In this article James Wetz describes and reflects on his experience as Principal of a Specialist Performing Arts College and Post‐16 Centre. His account will be of great interest to colleagues in the growing number of such schools. Of particular interest is the pervading clarity of purpose and willingness to accept the challenge presented by the arts and to address the sometimes uncomfortable issues they raise.
