This review essay addresses four prominent political science analyses of CO 2 ‐tax reforms in the Nordic countries. Three books on Norway, Finland and Denmark as well as a comparative essay are discussed. Two objections are raised against all of the four contributions. First, all these contributions tend to ignore independent variables related to economic structure as well as external political and economic challenges. Second, there is an absence of comparative designs that could discuss the effects of a broader set of independent variables in a meaningful way.
