The effects of site characteristics on the distribution of nests and nesting success were examined in the five‐spotted wrasse Symphodus roissali in the north‐western Mediterranean Sea. Nesting males selected nest sites mainly on flat substrata and close to a margin in the rocky littoral strip; however, substratum slope and degree of shelter from wave action were the determinants for a greater success.
