Partitioned Bayesian analysis of whole mitochondrial genome sequences from 30 basal teleosts confidently placed Sundasalanx (Sundasalangidae) within the Clupeiformes, not Osmeriformes as originally thought. This study represents the first demonstration of the phylogenetic position of Sundasalanx on a phylogenetic tree.
