SUMMARY In the last 18 months more than 200 one‐hour intramuscular “Synacthen” tests have been performed without side effects. It has been found to be a valuable screening test of adrenal responsiveness when iatrogenic adrenal insufficiency is suspected. We have found the one‐hour response to be a more reliable index of adrenal function than the half‐hour response used by previous workers.
