SUMMARY Blood coagulation tests carried out on a patient about to undergo prostatectomy revealed a prolonged plasma‐thrombin coagulation time which was shown to be due to the presence of abnormal fibrinogen in the patient's blood. Details are given of the coagulation studies performed, together with a discussion of the little known group of coagulation deficiencies caused by fibrinogen disorders.
