SUMMARY A case of bacterial endocarditis caused by Neisseria perflava is presented; the virulence of the organism is stressed and evidence is given that the organism was hæmolytic in vivo . The case adds another to the nine previously reported cases of bacterial endocarditis in patients hypersensitive to penicillin being treated with steroids and penicillin G. Some evidence is given to suggest cross allergy between penicillin G and cephaloridine. Early recourse to aortic valve replacement had a marked influence on the subsequent outcome for this patient.
