SUMMARY Eight patients are described who showed the classical ocular manifestations of Graves' disease but none of the other clinical manifestations of hyperthyroidism. In all cases there was an elevated level of PB 131 I in the plasma after the administration of a tracer dose of 131 I, and, in three cases studied, the uptake of 131 I by the thyroid was not suppressed by the administration of triiodothyronine. The possible mechanisms are discussed.
