Summary Diurnal rhythm studies on 13 patients suffering from gout showed a loss of the normal rhythm for urinary pH. This disturbance is characterized by the excretion of a persistently acidic urine with pH values below 6 throughout the day. There is also a disturbance of rhythm for titratable acidity and ammonium. A possible explanation for these findings is presented. Some of the clinical implications of the results are discussed.
