Summary Exercises of 30 minutes' duration and of sufficient severity to produce exhaustion resulted in the formation of large numbers of casts in the urine of eight healthy male volunteers. The coexistence of high concentration of TH mucoprotein with large numbers of casts in the urine passed after exercise suggests that casts are formed from the mucoprotein when it becomes sufficiently concentrated in the renal tubules. It has been shown in in‐vitro experiments with glass capillary tubes that deposition of TH mucoprotein is closely related to concentration (Patel et alii ., 1963). It is suggested that similar factors may be concerned in cast formation in acute renal failure.
