Summary Finger clubbing was detected in 24% of 50 patients with chronic obstructive lung disease. The patients with clubbing had a lower mean arterial oxygen saturation than those without clubbing, and no patient with clubbing had a normal arterial oxygen saturation. All patients with clubbing had abnormally large veno‐arterial shunts, and this may be of some ætiological significance.
