Summary We have reported and discussed our results of using the nitrous oxide test for studying intracradiac left‐to‐right shunts in too patients. The significant advantages of this test over serial oxygen content measurements have been confirmed. The use of gas chromatography for nitrous oxide analysis has made the test quicker, more accurate and easier to apply during cardiac catheterization.
