The H oly S pirit has often been used to define an alternative to C halcedonian C hristology that, by replacing the W ord with the S pirit as the locus of C hrist's divinity, is better able to honor C hrist's humanity. Such alternatives not only display a serious misunderstanding of C halcedon, but also exacerbate the problem they seek to address by accentuating C hrist's difference from other human beings. While an orthodox C hristology will see the S pirit as present in every one of J esus' actions, this should be understood as a vindication rather than a rebuttal of C halcedon.
