Summary and Conclusions Physical geography plays an important role in the occurrence and distribution of cutaneous diseases in tropical America. The four main types of climate of dermatologic interest in this region are the tropical rain forest, the tropical savanna, the desert and the mountain climate. They have definite and different effects on the development and distribution of skin diseases, with each region presenting its own characteristic pattern. The role of trace elements in the soil deserves more concentrated study, coordinated with allied sciences,to elucidate its possible relationship to causation of disease.
