Marion Sulzberger, 1 in his "A Third of a Century of Dermatology," gives a factual but somber evaluation of the current status of our specialty, along with requisites for our survival. The late Herbert Rattner,2 in predicting changes to come in the next twenty years, concluded: "The basic science aspect of dermatology will become increasingly more attractive, the practice of the specialty less so, and the art of practice, a lost art."
