Tape casting is an established forming technique for several industries, however, researches focus more on slurry composition. In this work, the combined use of design of experiment and materials characterization techniques showed tape casting process parameters have great influence on the microstructure and mechanical properties of green tapes. Formulation and processing optimization allowed obtaining YSZ green tapes with good mechanical characteristics and homogeneous microstructure without laminating step. The optimized sintering schedule and sintering load allowed obtaining planar electrolytes with high density, tensile strength, and electrical conductivity. This work provides an environmental friendly procedure for large‐scale production of SOFC s planar electrolytes.
