Hierarchical m‐ ZrO 2 nanorods synthesized by the simple hydrothermal method, and the possible formation mechanism was proposed based on a series of chemical reactions. The as‐synthesized products are composed of many 1 D ZrO 2 ·nH 2 O nanorods with 150–250 nm in diameter and 6–8 μm in length. The final product after annealing at the 700°C was involved into hierarchical monoclinic m‐ ZrO 2 nanorods, and the big nanorod was made up of many small nanorods with 10–20 nm in diameter and 400–500 nm in length. This discovery could helpful in understanding, the chemical properties of ZrB 2 and ZrO 2 , the design of its derivatives for m‐ ZrO 2 nanomaterials.
