Safe and successful use of a drone requires careful preparation, planning and practice. This includes full understanding of: (1) how to fly a drone and how the model being used works, (2) rules and regulations concerning drone use, (3) hazards and what to do in an emergency, (4) how to prepare and plan a flight and (5) how to keep a drone airworthy. We present procedures for what to do before, during and after a flight. In common with other industries in which safety and good performance are critical, it is advised that drone operators follow checklists, and examples of such checklists are provided.
