‘Deutsche Seelenzustände’ is an interview with one of the major Turkish‐German cultural protagonists. The author, essayist, poet, publisher, and translator Zafer Şenocak grew up in Munich and moved to Berlin after the reunification. Şenocak started publishing his first poems and novels in the early 1980s. Since the 1990s he is also in demand as a political commentator on the Turkish‐German experience in the FRG and on Turkish politics. Until today Şenocak remains one of the most important Turkish‐German intellectuals and is known for advocating a Turkish‐German synthesis. In the interview Şenocak discusses his recent books In deinen Worten and Deutschsein , and addresses issues of identity, participation, and acceptance.
