Based on a series of calculations, Raza et al. ( Global Change Biology , 26 , 3738–3751; 2020) predicted the acidification‐induced soil carbonate loss and subsequent CO 2 emission from Chinese croplands. We argue that their predictions may be substantially overestimated due to three reasons: (1) incorrect calculation of ( H N + ; i.e., N‐induced proton production) and thereby overestimated soil carbonate loss; (2) extended area of calcareous soil; and (3) overestimated proportion of CO 2 emission in carbonate loss from calcareous soil.
