The cGAS‐STING pathway generates a host immune response against pathogens. cGAS‐STING activation induces the production of antiviral type I IFNs and proinflammatory cytokines via transcription factors IRF3 and NF‐κB, respectively. This review provides a comprehensive overview of the signalling events and intracellular trafficking processes that mediate STING inflammatory responses and further highlights emerging and intriguing concepts within the cGAS‐STING field.
