The purpose of accreditation is to recognize that an undergraduate program in home economics/family and consumer science in the United States provides a high standard of academic quality, demonstrates accountability, and encourages improvement as needed. The process for accreditation includes several steps that usually occur over an 18‐ to 24‐month period of time. The process includes a Self‐Study Report, a prereview, a site visit and report, and a decision for one of three actions: accreditation, provisional accreditation, or denial.
