The concept of koinonia has been used in a wide range of Faith and Order studies and conferences since the 1980s. This article examines how such multilateral dialogue has used the notion of koinonia in relation to ecclesiology with a view to full visible eucharistic fellowship, exploring this dialogue in relation to koinonia and asking how close churches have come in building consensus around the notion. It then goes on to consider two aspects of koinonia : koinonia as relation and koinonia as service, and the concluding section draws out issues for further consideration within ecumenical dialogue.
