Cover Illustration: eGFP expression in a novel dopamine transporter transgenic mouse line ( Dat1‐eGFP ) is selective for dopaminergic neurons. Immunohistochemical quantification of eGFP reporter distribution in ventral midbrain revealed that a vast majority islocalized to dopaminergic neurons. Behavioral and functional characterization further showed that hemizygous Dat1‐eGFP miceare not phenotypically aberrant when compared to wildtype controls. Postnatal dopaminergic neurons from Dat1‐eGFP mice were sorted using fluorescence‐activated cell sorting and could be cultured for up to two weeks, suggesting that this mouse strain constitutes a promising tool for delineating new aspects of dopamine biology.
