This is a fine piece of scholarship but I rubbed my eyes in astonishment when first looking through it. Despite the title and an extensive bibliography there is hardly any mention of the work of economic historians. No mention of Gourvish (railways, Channel Tunnel), Hannah (electricity systems), Foreman-Peck (telecoms), Chick (French electricity), and Aldcroft (everything), and lest you complain these are all British, also omitted are Fremdling (German railways), Chadeau (French aircraft), Schott (German energy), Dienel (airlines), Fenoaltea (Italian utilities), and Goubert (French water supplies). Even Andersson-Skog (transport), who hails from Sweden where two of the authors are located (Hogselius and Kaijser from the Institute of Technology), does not get a reference. These are all perhaps an older generation but the only reference to articles in the Economic History Review relate to the stock exchange and bond issues. In case you think this is sour grapes on my part, I do get a mention in the context of nationalization.
