Occurrence of Erysiphe corylacearum causing powdery mildew of Corylus avellana in Romania

Erysiphe corylacearum , a species of powdery mildew that parasitizes on Corylus spp., has been detected for the first time in Romania. Shortly after the first European record of this pathogen from Ukraine, it was found in many locations throughout the Romanian Carpathians. Disease symptoms on Corylus avellana , morphological characteristics and molecular data (rDNA internal transcribed spacer region) of this pathogen are provided.
