The term “sandwich generation” has been used by demographers to describe a group of Americans who are caring for children under 18 and older relatives at the same time. As a 52‐year old single mom living with two daughters and my just‐over‐80 mother, I squarely fit the bill. One designer's account of the trials and joys of her “new normal” life in a three‐generational household during lockdown in the pandemic.
