The practice of design management is dedicated to thinking holistically about how design fits within the organization, and also about how customers experience its manifestation. At the dmi:Design Management Conference, “Inside Out/Outside In,” held in Amsterdam in May, 2016, 12 speaker sessions and 12 workshops explored the internal structures of an organization that work to create external success, and the impact that the external landscape has on internal activities. The following pages recap several of the most popular speaker sessions, illustrated in sketch‐notes by Chloe Byruck and Karen Jackson from Ecotone Inc. Consider them visually annotated summaries; the fact that Chloe simultaneously listened to and sketched the most salient points of each presentation is a marvel! The topics span a broad range of business cases: from how design facilitated the transformation of a global enterprise, to the co‐created rebranding of a city. We hope that you'll find them as fascinating as we did. And if you'd like to see more, the long‐form videos are available as a benefit of your DMI membership! Find them all at dmi.org/DMC16 .
