US elections technology—the infrastructure on which democracy depends—is proprietary, locking up public data. Unlocking that data is a design challenge on many levels. The TrustTheVote project—developing a set of US elections technologies that are trustworthy, up to date, and complete, and making those technologies available on an open‐source basis—is a classic example of social innovation for the greater good.
