Patches of dead trees in the center of the photo illustrating extensive forest mortality occurring in California, USA, as a result of a climate change driven “hot drought” and interactions with other global change drivers. Tree mortality occurs in some species and locations more than others, infl uencing forest ecosystems and species distributions, and their conservation, at vast scales.
